The Role

What you'll do on assignment.

As a travel OR/perioperative nurse, you manage patients throughout the surgical continuum — from pre-operative assessment through intraoperative circulating or scrubbing to post-operative recovery. Your sterile technique, surgical instrumentation knowledge, and patient advocacy ensure safe outcomes in the operating room.

Travel OR assignments typically place you in hospital operating rooms across multiple surgical specialties — orthopedics, general surgery, cardiac, neuro, and robotic-assisted procedures. You may circulate, scrub, or alternate between roles depending on the facility's needs and your skill set.

Because Cuready understands healthcare professionals, your recruiter knows the difference between a community hospital OR with 6 suites and a large academic center with 30+ rooms and specialized service lines. They match you to assignments that align with your surgical specialty experience and circulate/scrub preferences.

Training & Education

Your path to the field.

From nursing school to the operating room — what the professional journey looks like for perioperative nursing.

Your recruiter knows this pathway.

Because Cuready is built by healthcare professionals, we understand what each credential means and how to match your training to the right assignments.

OR nurses hold an ADN or BSN from an accredited nursing program. Most travel OR positions require a BSN and completion of a perioperative nursing residency or fellowship program. Programs cover sterile technique, surgical anatomy, instrumentation, and patient safety alongside supervised clinical rotations in operating rooms.

The base credential is an active RN license (state or compact). The CNOR (Certified Perioperative Nurse) from CCI is the gold standard for OR nurses and is preferred by most travel perioperative assignments. BLS is universally required, and ACLS may be requested for cardiac OR roles.
